Waiting on Wednesday: The 5th Wave and The Fiery Heart

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Jill at Breaking The Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases we're eagerly anticipating.

Here are my WoW picks this week (click title for the Goodreads page):

The 5th Wave (The Fifth Wave, #1)
Release date: May 7th, 2013
Publisher: Putnam Juvenila
Pre-order: Amazon | Book Depository
The Passage meets Ender’s Game in an epic new series from award-winning author Rick Yancey.

After the 1st wave, only darkness remains. After the 2nd, only the lucky escape. And after the 3rd, only the unlucky survive. After the 4th wave, only one rule applies: trust no one.

Now, it’s the dawn of the 5th wave, and on a lonely stretch of highway, Cassie runs from Them. The beings who only look human, who roam the countryside killing anyone they see. Who have scattered Earth’s last survivors. To stay alone is to stay alive, Cassie believes, until she meets Evan Walker. Beguiling and mysterious, Evan Walker may be Cassie’s only hope for rescuing her brother—or even saving herself. But Cassie must choose: between trust and despair, between defiance and surrender, between life and death. To give up or to get up.

I've heard nothing but great things about The 5th Wave. It is a post-apocalyptic story about an alien invasion with a kick-butt heroine. It is also being compared to THG and that sets the expectation bar REALLY HIGH. Hype generally turns me off, but I'm more intrigued with this one. The good news is, the book will be out next week!

The Fiery Heart (Bloodlines, #4)
Release date: November 19th, 2013
Publisher: Razorbill
Pre-order: Amazon | Book Depository
In The Indigo Spell, Sydney was torn between the Alchemist way of life and what her heart and gut were telling her to do. And in one breathtaking moment that Richelle Mead fans will never forget, she made a decision that shocked even her. . . .

But the struggle isn't over for Sydney. As she navigates the aftermath of her life-changing decision, she still finds herself pulled in too many directions at once. Her sister Zoe has arrived, and while Sydney longs to grow closer to her, there's still so much she must keep secret. Working with Marcus has changed the way she views the Alchemists, and Sydney must tread a careful path as she harnesses her profound magical ability to undermine the way of life she was raised to defend. Consumed by passion and vengeance, Sydney struggles to keep her secret life under wraps as the threat of exposure—and re-education—looms larger than ever.

Pulses will race throughout this thrilling fourth installment in the New York Times bestselling Bloodlines series, where no secret is safe.

This series is one of my current favorites.  Indigo Spell was fantastic and my favorite book in the series so far, but I think I hope this will take over that title. Why? Because it will have Adrian Ivashkov's perspective!!!
